Captain Auguste Trève (1829-1885) was Commander of the Legion of Honor and Officer of Public Instruction. His career as a sailor, interrupted by the siege of Paris, led him several times to the Far East where his action was both military and diplomatic: Consul of Tien Tsin (1860), diplomat at the Beijing embassy (1861-1862), and he has been part of campaigns in China, Japan, Korea (1864-1867).

Commander Trève was also a scientist whose many works (Green Ray, magnetism, electricity) were the subject of numerous articles at the Academy of Sciences and applied in the French Navy Army.
