alabaster

Possibly Isabella II of Spain (1830-1904);
private collection
The original marble by Germain Pilon (circa 1525-1590), now in the Musée du Louvre, held the ashes of King Henri II of France (1519–59). It was commissioned by the King’s widow, Catherine de Médicis.

The inscribed plaque on the present copy in alabaster indicates that it may have been commissioned by the Spanish royal family.
