To sit alongside the robust stainless steel version of its famed pilot’s watch, Rolex also made luxurious 18k yellow gold variations of the GMT-Master. The yellow gold GMT-Master 16758 was first introduced in 1981, and only remained in production for a relatively short time until it was discontinued in 1988. Contrasting with the warm gold tones of the case, bracelet, and hands, this ref. 16758 features a black dial and a matching black rotating bezel. The use of the 24-hour marked bezel in conjunction with the 24-hour hand allows users to simultaneously reference a second time zone. Although the steel counterpart of the 16758 was fitted with an acrylic crystal, Rolex opted for modern scratch-resistant sapphire for the crystal of the yellow gold version.
