The Patek Philippe reference 1480 was launched in 1940 and produced until 1949. This elusive reference was nicknamed "Twin Lugs" by some collectors due to the unique visual rendering of its highly sculpted lugs. The extraordinary post-Art Deco case was manufactured by Georges Croisier (Geneva Key number 5) and offered in a pink gold variant with a matching pink dial or in yellow gold with a silvered dial, such as the present piece.

The reference 1480 is powered by the rectangular manual winding calibre 9'''90, a trustworthy and great looking movement proudly used by the brand for many of its shaped wristwatches. Another exquisite design element lies in the glass itself: its extreme height allows for the lugs to actually sit on a higher plan than the dial, generating an impressively unique profile.

The offered lot, manufactured in 1945 and sold in 1946, bears its original silvered dial, displaying the early, long enamelled signature and applied gold indexes. To this day, approximately 55 pieces have come back to the market, including 40 pink gold examples and 15 yellow gold cases, making the present lot a rare opportunity to acquire a seldom-seen reference.
