The Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse design was first introduced in 1968. The case proportions relied on the ancient Greek “golden section” ratio of 1 / 1.6181, heralded as the purest and most artistic way to depict harmonious shapes. Ten years later, Patek Philippe launched the Grande Ellipse reference 3738 which remained in production until 2009.
The present yellow gold timepiece is dated from 1993 and belongs to the second series, which spanned between 1984 and 1999. The original 18ct yellow gold Patek Philippe beads of rice bracelet makes this reference a 3738/122, powered by the reliable Geneva-sealed micro-rotor cal. 240-31. Its gold blue sigma-dial complements the Favre-Perret signed case for an elegant ensemble.
The present lot comes with its Certificate of Origin dated 1993 as well as an Extract from the Archives confirming the date of sale on XXX, 1993. The watch is further-accompanied by its Patek Philippe leather folder with its period booklets and a presentation case.
