Daniel de Koninck was the nephew of both the renowned landscape painter Philips Koninck and Jacob Koninck, the latter of whom he apprenticed with from 1682 until 1690 when he moved to Oxford.

When this painting was last on the market, Dr. Werner Sumowski endorsed a full attribution to the artist on the basis of photographs.
