TWO QUR’AN LEAVES IN BIHARI SCRIPT, INDIA, SULTANATE, CIRCA 16TH CENTURY
leaf with 13 lines: surah al-Isra’ (XVII), vv.8-16
leaf with 15 lines: surah al-Haj (XXII), vv.2-9
Arabic manuscript on paper, one leaf: 13 lines to the page, the first, middle and last written in gold thuluth-style, the rest in Bihari in black and blue, interlinear in red nasta’liq, one blue tear drop-shaped verse marker in the margin; the other leaf: 15 lines to the page, written in black Bihari, the word Allah written in red, with tear drop-shaped verse markers in blue, orange, red and green in the margin, both leaves ruled in red and blue and verses separated by gold and blue rosettes

Leaf with 13 lines: sold in these rooms, 28 April 1981, lot 189.
The smaller leaf, with thirteen lines to the page, is unusual as it combines two scripts, Bihari and a style of thuluth written in gold.
