AN ILLUMINATED QUR’AN, PERSIA, QAJAR, CIRCA 1800
Arabic manuscript on paper, 344 leaves plus 4 fly-leaves, 14 lines to the page, written in naskh in black ink, ruled in blue, red, green and gold, verses separated by gold and polychrome rosettes, verses separated by gold and polychrome rosettes, surah headings in riqa against a coloured ground within cartouches, re-margined, polychrome and gold hisb and sajdahs markers in the margins, f.1b and f.2a with an illuminated frontispiece, in brown leather gilt binding, the doublures decorated with a cut out bunch of flower within an almond-shaped medallion against a blue and green ground
