The Five Tathagatas, also known as the Five Great Buddhas, are emanations and representations of the five qualities of Vairocana Buddha. Bronze offering plaques with similar iconography have been found at Ming dynasty temples at Wutaishan. The current bronze plaque is inscribed with the names of the donors.
