A WALNUT MARQUETRY MONTH-GOING LONGCASE CLOCK, DANIEL QUARE, LONDON, CIRCA 1700, MOVEMENT AND CASE ASSOCIATED


11-inch dial with foliate winged cherub spandrels, signed Daniel Quare, London, matted centre with subsidiary seconds dial, ringed winding holes and engraved date aperture, the movement with six latched, knopped and ringed pillars, anchor escapement, five wheel going train and four wheel striking train, external locking plate striking on a bell, the associated case with moulded top and domed cresting above panels of foliate fretwork and brass-capped hood pilasters, the rectangular trunk door inset with a lenticle, the sides divided into panels, the plinth with moulded base, inlaid throughout with arabesque marquetry, the door and plinth incorporating mythical birds and figures
