BREANT A PARIS and apparently signed Coteau underneath a bead and reel gilt bronze border along lower edge; with annular date and open centre to reveal a fully skeletonised movement with pinwheel escapement, gridiron pendulum and outside count-wheel striking on a bell

Jacques-Thomas Bréant (1753-1807) was born in Paris and began as an ouvrier libre, becoming a maître in 1783. The enameller Joseph Coteau (1740–1812) was born in Geneva but primarily worked in Paris, achieving maître status in 1778.
