Cartier made several versions of this cigarette box, mostly with silver bodies, called in the archives “forme bateau”. An example in silver by Maurice Couet is illustrated in Olivier Bachet and Alain Cartier, Cartier, Exceptional Objects, p. 319, where it is noted that the example in the Cartier Collection is “engraved with a geometric pattern and richly decorated in gold, sculpted jade and scattered sapphires.” Such a box was sold Christie’s Geneva, May 1993, lot 825.
