Description
AN EGYPTIAN WOOD PANEL WITH QEBEHSENUEF, LATE PERIOD, 716-30 B.C.
painted on a white ground within a yellow and red frame with the falcon-headed mummiform deity holding a scepter before him, an inscription in the upper right corner.
29.5cm. high; 11½in.
Simon Scroope (who married Emily Berkeley in 1855), presumably given by him to his brother-in-law Robert Martn Berkeley (1823-1897)
A label applied to the back is written in ink with the following: "the lid of an infant's coffin, taken out of a newly opened tomb at Thebes by Simon Scroope Esq. June" probably followed by the date "1845".
