[SHUTTLE COLUMBIA (STS-5)]

CLEARING THE LAUNCH TOWER. 11 NOVEMBER 1982.

Vintage NASA “Red Number” chromogenic color photograph, 10 by 8 inches, “This Paper Manufactured by Kodak” watermark to verso. NASA image ID “S82-39534” printed in center of upper margin in red; minor toning, tape to verso.

A dramatic view of STS-5 clearing the launch tower on the morning of 11 November 1982. Aboard the shuttle was a crew of four—the largest up to that point in time. Columbia landed five days later, on Runway 22 at Edwards Air Force Base, having travelled 2 million miles in 81 orbits.
