Description

[APOLLO 16]

JOHN YOUNG IN THE LUNAR ROVER. 23 APRIL 1972.

Vintage NASA “Red Number” chromogenic print, 10 by 8 inches, “A Kodak Paper” watermark to verso. NASA image ID “NASA AS16-115-18559” printed in upper left margin in red; minor toning.

INSCRIBED and SIGNED by CHARLIE DUKE: "PARKING THE ROVER IN ITS FINAL RESTING | SPOT AFTER OUR 3RD AND FINAL EVA | CHARLIE DUKE | APOLLO 16"; and on the verso: "FROM MY PERSONAL COLLECTION | CHARLIE DUKE"

In an image captured by Lunar Module Pilot Charlie Duke, Apollo 16 Commander John W. Young can be seen in the distance, parking the lunar rover at the end of the mission's third and final EVA at the Descartes landing site. Stone Mountain can be seen on the horizon at the left, while the shadow of the LM commands much of the frame.
