A CHINESE FAMILLE-VERTE PLATE AND A MEISSEN FAMILLE-VERTE PLATE KANGXI PERIOD AND CIRCA 1740

the Chinese plate painted in the center with a jardinière issuing a small pine tree surrounded by sprouting lingzhi, the cavetto with a gilt spearhead border and the everted rim painted with flower sprays; the Meissen plate painted in the same pattern, crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue, impressed numeral 20.

A pair of almost identical examples of the Chinese plate from the Goldmuntz Collection was sold in our London rooms, May 9, 1972, lot 122, and a set of four were sold in our London rooms, May 15, 1973, lot 91. A further pair was sold in these rooms, November 16, 1976, lot 98. A second example of a Meissen plate with a Chinese plate was sold at Christie's Geneva, The Estate of the late Andreina Torre, November 16, 1992, lot 166.
