Published within The Sunday Times, 31 August 2014. Later published in Sixty Years of Being Rude (2019), p. 509.
At the end of August 2014 the Conservative MP for Clacton, Douglas Carswell, announced his defection to the UKIP. This triggered a by-election, on 9 October 2014, which saw Carswell retain his seat.
