Georges Raguis was a cinema union official and member of the Cannes Film Festival jury for several decades from its inception.

On the reverse of the backing board is a handwritten note signed with the intials AC and bearing the same date as the work which reads: 'The bearer of this is Barum Khan an ordinary (...ilegible) who is sent for having this portrait drawn. He can be given some reward'
