Description

rectangular, the lid centred with a rose-cut diamond-set bonsai tree with fine black enamel edges, in a carved fluted jade vase with cobalt blue enamel borders, on a polished gold ground decorated with a gem-set blue enamel zig-zag band to each side, the sides enamelled with blue stripes, centred with a gem-set pushpiece, the base similarly decorated, the interior of the lid engraved with a presentation inscription reading: 'Mrs. Charles Deere Wiman Moline, Illinois', traces of signature: '...TIER', remnants of an 18K mark to base

On loan to the Art Institute, Chicago
