The figures in these paintings are the work of another hand, which has previously been tentatively identified with the artist Kaspar Jacob van Opstal the Younger (1654-1717), also from Antwerp, who is known to have collaborated with other still life painters. The former painting of this pair bears close relation to the work sold at Christie's, Amsterdam, 26 March 1988, lot 158 (the pendant to which includes a moor, rather than another lady).
