The present relief, depicting the apostles surrounding the Virgin's deathbed, shows characterful faces, elaborately curled hair, and crisp, folded drapery at the bottom of the relief. Compare to a group of the Footwashing, sold Sotheby's Amsterdam, 21 November 2007, lot 13, catalogued as Southern Netherlandish, possibly from Oudenaerde, and another relief of Christ meeting Saint Veronica in Museum Catharijneconvent (inv. no. BMH bh3358).
