Spontaneous portrait drawings such as this are among the most touching studies left to us by Federico Zuccaro, giving a fascinating insight into his daily life, the people he knew and met, or just those whom he observed during his travels. The most famous group of Federico's portraits of this type were drawn during his visits, in the years 1576-77, to the Badia di Vallombrosa.
