This is one of several period versions of Cortona's painting of the same subject. A very similar version was formerly in the collection of the Dukes of Devonshire at Chatsworth House (now Manchester City Art Gallery), and another version was sold in Rome (Finarte, 16 May 1974, lot 128).¹  All of the paintings are related to a fresco Cortona painted for the Villa Sacchetti at Castel Fusano, a building which he also designed.
