A FINE KATANA IN SHIRASAYA, EDO PERIOD, CIRCA 1688-1704


Sugata [configuration]: Shinogi-zukuri with iori-mune, a slim tachi-style with chu-kissaki

Kitae [forging pattern]: Ko-mokume-hada

Hamon [tempering pattern]: Midare-komi, wide in places reaching the shinogi, occasional tobiyaki and some tsunagashi, long yakidashi near habaki

Boshi [tip]: Ko-maru with a short kaeri

Nakago [tang]: Two mekugi-ana and kori-jiri, some machi-okuri and signed on the omote, Ki Kuni Yasumitsu

Habaki [collar]: Silver on copper

Koshirae [mount]: In black lacquered saya sprinkled with some mother-and-pearl, an iron tsuba with a tiger in a bamboo grove, highlighted in gold and copper mumei, the tsuka has green ito over white same, the copper menuki depicting mon, the shakudo-nakako fuchi-kashira show a kabuto and naginata

Accompanied by a certificate of a registration as Nihon Token [Sword Worthy of Preservation], certifiate number 27201511, issued by Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai [Society for the Preservation of the Japanese Art Sword], dated Heisei 28 [2016].

Moto-haba [width at the yokote]: 3 cm., 1 1/4 in.

Saki-haba [width at the machi]: 1.7 cm., 3/4 in.
