Patek Philippe started making perpetual calendar chronograph wristwatches in 1941, beginning with the iconic reference 1518. Reference 3970 later replaced the beloved reference 2499 in 1986, and was in production for nearly two decades.
Reference 3970/2 is extremely rare with only a handful of examples in yellow gold known to date. The present watch from 2008 is fitted with an incredible bracelet, as well as a black dial with a tachymeter scale featuring an applied Breguet numeral at 12 o'clock and applied dot hour markers. The unique dial is further enhanced by its monogram of the original owner at the 6 o'clock position.
According to scholarship, this watch is fresh to the auction market, and is offered in its original Patek Philippe single-factory seal. Presented in unworn condition, this reference 3970/2 is an exciting and rare opportunity for collectors to own a special and possibly unique piece of horology.
