Launched in 2011, the Calibre de Cartier Grand Complication was made in a limited run of 25 pieces. Drawing inspiration from their historical mono pusher chronographs, Cartier decided to combine this complication with two of the most revered complications, the perpetual calendar and tourbillon. The resulting caliber 9436 M was commissioned and made by the renowned ‘Manufacture d'Horlogerie Renaud et Papi SA’, makers of some of the most complicated and elaborate movements and who have developed complications for the likes of Audemars Piguet and Richard Mille.
The caliber 9436 M required 200 hours to assemble with an additional 200 hours of decoration including individual numbering, visible through its semi skeletonized dial and exhibition sapphire crystal case back.
