Description

BACH, JOHANN SEBASTIAN

Manuscript full score of the Concerto in D minor for Cembalo, BWV 1052

notated in brown ink by an unidentified scribe on two six-stave systems per page, with pencil fingerings and some corrections in another hand to the solo cembalo part

52 pages, oblong 4to (26 x 32cm), wove paper, gilt title ("Concert von Joh. Seb. Bach.") to upper cover within a decorative floral border, ownership stamp ("D. A. Benda") and inscription to front free endpaper ("Ernst Rudorff. (aus Benda's Nachlaß stammend...)"), nineteenth-century half morocco, no place or date [first half of the C19th?]

The score of the D minor concerto BWV 1052 was not published until after 1836 (by Kistner).

This is indeed the Concerto in D minor BWV 1052 (first published after 1836), but for Cembalo (Keyboard), not for Two Violins. Bach may have originally composed it as a concerto for violin, but not for two violins.
