Small folio (305 x 240 mm). 18 hand-colored lithographed plates, each plate with multiple vignettes of whaling adventures and the local inhabitants and customs of the Pacific ports of call, text in English and French, plus a hand-colored title vignette of a baleen whale; some very minor smudges to a few margins. Original black cloth stamped in gilt and blind; rebacked.

A scarce book, originally for the benefit of a juvenile audience, but the hand-colored plates depicting the Pacific islands and South American views are quite compelling.
