8vo (9 x 6 3/8 in.; 228 x 162 mm). Thirteen black-and-white photographic illustrations. Original stiff pictorial wrappers; lightly toned. 

First edition, inscribed in an elderly hand by the author on the free front endpaper: "To Paul Betts, Champion canoeist and man after my own heart."  


The first book on surfing, a major desideratum for any surfing collection. Self-published in an edition of only 500 copies, it is described by Mark Hayes in his checklist of Early Surfing Books as "beyond rare.
