RYAN, JOHN
Two Captain Pugwash illustrations, comprising:
I) "Captain Horatio Pugwash", 115 by 168mm. (oval), gouache drawing with varnish, signed "John Ryan" lower right, inscribed on reverse "...Gratefully, from JOHN who drew him to JUDY who published him. August, 1979", framed; ii) "Pugwash Ahoy No 78", 78 by 330mm. comic strip, ink drawing with acetate, signed "John Ryan" lower right, dated "17.8.61" on reverse
Captain Pugwash first appeared, as a comic strip, in 1950. There were TV series in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. A live-action film is currently in production. The Bodley Head published Captain Pugwash books for over thirty years.
