Order of Battle and Sailing, listing 13 ships of the line in two squadrons, listing their captains, complement of guns and of men, sent to Captain Miller of HMS Theseus, GIVING THE ORDER OF BATTLE FOR NELSON'S REINFORCED MEDITERRANEAN SQUADRON AS HE EMBARKED TO INTERCEPT THE FRENCH FLEET IN AN ACTION THAT WOULD CULMINATE WITH THE BATTLE OF THE NILE, 1 page, folio, integral blank, HMS Vanguard, 7 June 1798, framed and glazed, splitting at folds with slight soiling, reinforced
On 5 June Nelson had received orders to rendezvous with a squadron under the command of Thomas Troubridge on HMS Culloden and command the combined force to seek and destroy the French fleet that had recently sailed from Toulon. This order, given at the time of the rendezvous off Corsica, lists nearly all of the "band of brothers" that would win their decisive victory at the Battle of the Nile less than two months later.
