A FRAGMENTARY CARNELIAN INTAGLIO, PROBABLY LATE HELLENISTIC, CIRCA 2ND/1ST CENTURY B.C.
finely carved with the head of a youth facing left, with full parted lips, prominent forehead, and short wavy hair; set into a modern gold ring.
Visible height 1.3 cm.; height of mount 1.5 cm.
Jan Mitchell (1913-2009), New York, probably acquired in the 1960s or earlier
by descent to the present owner
