A port on the coast of Brittany famous for its protective granite wall, Saint-Malo provided a wealth of inspiration to Émile-Othon Friesz. While Friesz initially joined the Fauves in the early 20th century, his mature production is more reflective of Cézanne’s practice of solid volumetric forms and geometric composition.
