BOOK OF COMMON PRAYER, IRISH.

The Book of Common Prayer... With the Psalter or Psalms... pointed as they are to be sung or said in churches. Leabhar na Nornaightheadh Ccombchoitchionn... Tsaltair no Psalmuibh Dhaibhidh. 8vo, English and Irish title pages, double column, the Book of Common Prayer in Irish for the most part and in Irish and English for certain parts, the Psalms in Irish only, contemporary calf, English title page slightly torn, printing error on Kk1 verso, some spotting, browning and staining, some tears, binding very worn, joints splitting

The second edition of the Book of Common Prayer issued for the use in Ireland. Part of the English liturgy is in Irish and English, and the remainder, including the Epistles, the Gospels and the Psalter, are in Irish only. The Psalter differs somewhat from that included in the Irish Bible, having been edited by John Richardson, rector of Annagh, Kilmore, to conform more with the English Prayer Book. The Irish title-page is printed partly in Irish letter and partly in Irish in Roman letter. The small pica type used was made by Moxon for the first printed Bible in Irish (see lot 105).
