Description
Brutalist iron and natural Jerusalem stone menorah sculpture by David Palombo.
- Hand-forged with nine textured iron prongs, in different heights, the Shamash standing the tallest.
- Each prong is pierced with a natural stone from Jerusalem.
- David Palombo (Turkish, 1920–1966) was a sculptor and painter who immigrated to Israel with his parents in 1923.
- Palombo began his studies at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, and became a student of sculptor Ze’ev Ben-Zvi in 1942, later becoming an assistant at Ben-Zvi’s studio and teaching at Bezalel.
- Palombo’s known works include the gates to the memorial building at Yad Vashem (1960) and the gates to the Knesset; the latter were created shortly before his premature death.
