Description
First edition, illustrated copy of Apollinaire's work on cubist painters inscribed by Motherwell.
Motherwell was the general editor of documents of modern art, and he has inscribed this copy to a noted French architect and his wife, "For Dollie & Pierre Chareau (1883–1950)/ with affectionate respect/ Robert Motherwell/ NYC/December 1944." Chareau had fled France to Morocco and then to the USA. In the late 1940s, Chareau completed two architectural projects in the United States. One was a house and studio for artist Robert Motherwell in East Hampton, Long Island.
