- Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky is known for his lyrical style and innovative theories on non-figurative art. In 1910, he published Concerning the Spiritual In Art, which brought to the world his belief that color and abstract forms can be used to portray the inner life of the artist. “Color is a means of exerting direct influence on the soul.”
- This kimono, made with the Meisen technique, exemplifies this style, and the similarities can be seen in Kandinsky's painting Improwizacja from 1932.
