Description

Sterling silver kiddush cup made by Gorham in Providence.

  • Tapering bowl with molded rim and concave girdle.
  • At bottom low-relief ornamental border with stylized flowers and leafing scrollwork on stippled ground, raised foot.
  • On front in leafing frame is engraved: “Presented / To Our Worthy Brother / Solomon Latz. / As A Token Of His / Valuable Services / In The / Performance Of His / Various Functions, In The / Beer [sic] Schebha Lodge No 11 / I.O.B.B. / Oct. 16th 1887.”
  • Fully marked including maker’s stamp, date symbol and no. E65


Latz was a New York real estate dealer who was active in the Independent Order of B’nai B’rith (I.O.B.B.) as well as a benefactor to orphanages and hospitals.
