Condition

This work is in good overall condition as viewed. There is evidence of light wear to the edges of the work due to abrasions with the frame, but this does not affect the overall image as it is covered by the frame. Under bright light and close inspection, there is evidence of light hairline craquelure to the surface of the paint at the sky, but this is stable and consistent with age. All other inconsistencies are inherent to the artist's working method. Examination under ultraviolet light reveals minor spots of restoration primarily at the edges of the work. Framed.

Catalogue Note

“When Yong came across a scene that spoke to his soul, he would swiftly set up his easel and camp stool, equipped with a brush in hand to relay it on the canvas… Yong’s identification of his subjects’ struggles, including fishermen in seaside villagers, farmers in paddy fields and labourers in plantations, historic architecture, tin mines took centre stage.”
