- 18.9 cm, 7 1/2 in.
elegantly potted with a compressed globular body rising from a splayed stepped foot to a tall tubular neck terminating in a galleried rim, covered overall with a lustrous olive-coloured glaze speckled with a fine moss-green mist, the base with an incised six-character seal mark beneath a brown dressing

Vases of this form and glaze are held in important museums and private collections worldwide; one in the Tianjin Museum, is illustrated in Porcelains from the Tianjin Municipal Museum, Hong Kong, 1993, pl. 162; another in the Koger collection is published in John Ayers, Chinese Ceramics. The Koger Collection, London, 1985, pl. 135; a third in the Huaihaitang collection, was included in the exhibition Ethereal Elegance. Porcelain Vases of the Imperial Qing, Art Museum, Institute of Chinese Studies, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, 2007-8, cat. no. 64; and a further example, from the Meiyintang collection, illustrated in Regina Krahl, Chinese Ceramics from the Meiyintang Collection, London, 1994-2010, vol. 2, pl. 935, was sold in these rooms, 8th April 2013, lot 6. Teadust-glazed vases of this form continued to be produced in the succeeding Jiaqing reign (r. 1796-1820); see for example a Jiaqing mark and period vase, from the Qing Court collection and still in Beijing, illustrated in Zhongguo taoci quanji [Complete series on Chinese Ceramics], Shanghai, 1990-2000, vol. 15, pl. 148.
