Description

  • 14.7 cm, 5 3/4  in.
superbly potted with deep and gently rounded sides rising from a flat base to a rim bordered along the exterior with a thin raised band, above a bevelled frieze encircling the base, the flat interior carved with a medallion enclosing a single daylily borne on a curled stem with scrolling leaves, veiled in a silky ivory-coloured transparent glaze showcasing the white stoneware body, the unglazed mouthrim mounted with a metal band

Condition

There are areas of overspray to the bowl and the underside when viewed under UV light, probably to conceal a Y-shaped hairline crack running from the rim to the underside. The exquisite lustre is consistent with Dingyao wares that have been handed down since the Song dynasty, rather than excavated or cached examples. General surface wear.
