Condition

This work is in very good condition overall. Upon extremely close inspection there are a few minute and very unobtrusive rub marks along the extreme edges of the composition. Upon further incredibly close inspection under raking light there is a minute, indiscernible scuff mark, ⅛ inch in size, 2 inches from the top right hand corner top. Under Ultraviolet light inspection, there is no evidence of restoration. Framed

Catalogue Note

"Significant art must somehow address the world in which it is made and presented. On the surface, a portrait of Jesus hardly seems like a vehicle for engaging current concerns, yet in its convergence of gravitas and cartoonish-ness, of emotional credibility and ridiculousness, Condo's painting sums up defining aspects of our relationship with contemporary culture. Simultaneously soliciting varied registers of response, it instills a general uncertainty as to how we might go about deciphering its mixed messages." Ralph Rugoff in: Exh. Cat., New York, The New Museum (and traveling), George Condo: Mental States, 2011 - 2012, p. 11
