Catalogue Note
In his catalogue of 1986, Klaus Ertz describes the present work as a a painting done in his youth probably before 1600 (see Ertz, op. cit., p. 466). De Momper collaborated in various instances with Sebastian Vrancx, who has possibly also painted the figures in this landscape; we find evidence of this collaboration in a note in Joos de Momper's inventory of 21 January 1623, confirming the collaboration of Vrancx and De Momper (see Ertz, op. cit., p. 51).
