Condition
Remnants of the orginal patina are visible throughout the surface, notably in the crevices. Small circular casting plugs are visible in some places. There are a few minor dents in some places, consistent with age and handling. The proper right rear leg is slightly misshaped. On a modern wood base.

Catalogue Note
In addition to the horse created for the equestrian group of Henry IV, of which several casts are mentioned in the inventory of Prieur's estate dating 28 October 1611, wax and bronze animals by the sculptor are also mentioned several times, including "[...] trois figures d'animaux de Lyon et chevaulx aussi de bronze non réparé, prisez ensemble dix livres tournois [three not repaired bronze figures of animals of lion and horses, appraised together ten livres tournois"(see Mrs. Lamy, G. Brière, op. cit., p. 54). The elegant slender features of this horse are characteristic of Prieur's animals. RELATED LITERATURE
