Description
- Christ crowned with thorns
- Oil on copper, octagonal
- 31,2 x 27,7 cm; 12 1/4 by 10 1/4 in.
Condition
The actual painting shows more contrast than the catalogue illustration would suggest. Painted on a single octagonal piece of copper, which is quite nice and flat. The painted surface seems to be in a reasonable condition with most of its impastos well preserved. Some minor thinness can be observed in the dark areas of the composition, where we observe various retouchings and strengthenings. These turn up matt in the varnish layer. The painted surface is covered with a somewhat dirty and discolored varnish layer and would benefit from a good restoration. Under the UV light The varnish layer fluoresces somewhat, showing various strenghtenings on the left, which are also turning up matt as mentioned above. Offered with a black veneer wooded frame with a golden octagonal inset.
