Catalogue Note

If the architect Léon-Joseph Madeline (1891-1977) played an important role in the flourishing of Art Deco architecture, redecorating several famous Parisian brasseries as Brasserie Lipp and the Balzar, he is especially renowned for his work as chief architect of the coal mines in the North of France. He is represented here by the painter Charley Garry as the organizer of the main site he is known for: the headquarters of the Faulquemont coal mine in Moselle.
