Condition
The painting has been relined, and has been recently cleaned. The painted surface seems to be in a nice condition and is covered with a fine and dense craquelure pattern. Discoloured retouching can be seen all around the edges, and another one in the centre just above the tip of the harbour. Some minor thinness can be observed in the darker parts of the sky. Under UV light A few areas of an old (?) varnish layer fluoresce, e.g. in the half lower left picture. Retouching can be seen all around the edges: there is probably a strip of circa 1cm added to enlarge the picture. Some of the retouching mentioned above (in the sky area), can be seen. Offered with a gold painted carved wooden frame. Please note that Sotheby’s does not guarantee the condition of the frame.
