The canvas has been relined (old glue relining). Two horizontal seams can be seen: one at circa 5cm from the top, the other at circa 5cm from the bottom. The painted surface is covered with a dense craquelure pattern, a bit coarse in places. It appears under a dirty and discoloured varnish. We can see some paint losses in the lower part near the inscriptions, and some minor ones around the upper seam. Some thinness can be seen in the darker parts of the composition. Under UV light The varnish layer fluoresces almost completely, showing the 2 horizontal seams. Offered with a carved frame. Please note that Sotheby’s does not guarantee the condition of the frame.
