Both paintings have been newly relined. Both painted surfaces seem to be in a very nice condition. The colors of the landscape and of the architecture seem to be nicely preserved. Both are covered with fine and dense craquelure patterns. 1) No major damages seem to be apparent. We can see some retouching in the sky area, with larger ones on the left, which are quite crudely done. In the sky, a vertical repaired damage of circa 15cm appears on the left. Some substantial retouching are visible in the sky, and another retouching area in the wood lower left. We can see a longer horizontal retouched seam at circa 30cm from the bottom. Under UV light The varnish layer fluoresces in some areas, showing the retouching as mentioned above. 2) Retouching can be seen in the sky area and some scattered in the landscape, especially on the right. An horizontal seam has been retouched at circa 30cm from the bottom. We can see some retouching in the lower foreground and in the pond. Both paintings are offered with a plain gilt-coloured wooden frames. Please note that Sotheby’s does not guarantee the condition of the frame.
