Description

  • 45 x 36 cm ; 17 3/4  x 14 1/8 in.
silk embroidered with gold ; in its original leathered case stamped "au petit fer" in gold and with the same coat of arms

Condition

Fabric in very good condition overall, with some wear and dirt consistent with age. Minor fraying and warping to the thread. Wear to leather box, including extensive tearing and fraying at the edges.

Catalogue Note

These arms do not seem to be those of any Italian 18th century bishop. The closest correspondence - with a slight alteration to its arrangement - could designate the French family Grollier, which produced many clergymen and prelates.
